The General Secretariat as an expert service of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia performs the following tasks that concern:
– manages with the General Secretariat as an expert service of the Government and has rights and duties as a director who heads an independent body of the state administration; 
– provides legal and efficient work of the General Secretariat and adopts expert directives and acts, thus arranging the organization and the manner of work and in accordance with the Law, decides on the rights, duties and responsibilities of employees in the General Secretariat; 
– cooperates with the Prime Minister’s Office within the frameworks of his/her competencies; 
– cooperates with the ministries and other bodies of the state administration, especially upon issues on the strategic priories and policy analysis; 
– pursues cooperation with state secretaries in submitting the materials to the Government and implementation of the Government’s conclusions; 
– in accordance with the Prime Minister’s directives, performs the activities regarding the preparation and organization of the Government’s sessions; 
– takes part in the work at the Government’s sessions, having no right to make decisions and takes care of the procedural questions during the Government’s session; 
– provides conditions for work of the Government’s working bodies; 
– submits the Government’s conclusions to the relevant ministries; 
– takes care of publishing the Government’s acts in “Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia; 
– organizes the preparation of the Government’s Annual Working Program; 
– oversees the fulfilling of the Government’s obligations towards the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia
